Stripe Connect Setup — Step-by-Step Guide
Overview
To take card payments on Tappin, you need to connect a Stripe account to your workspace. This is a one-time setup per workspace and involves two stages: kicking off the connection from Tappin, then completing onboarding on Stripe’s hosted platform. The full process takes about ten minutes.
Step-by-Step Process
Step 1: Create Stripe Account in Tappin
Where: Workspace → Payment Settings
What to do:
- Navigate to Workspace Settings
- Click on the Payment Settings tab
- Click Create Stripe Account
- Tappin generates an Account ID
- Status will show “Verification Pending”
Why: This generates the Stripe account on Tappin’s end and prepares the connection for completing onboarding.
Step 2: Launch Stripe Onboarding
Where: Workspace → Payment Settings
What to do:
- Click Complete Stripe Onboarding
- Stripe’s hosted onboarding opens in a new browser tab
- You’ll see a “Let’s get started” welcome screen
Why: Tappin redirects you to Stripe’s secure platform where you’ll provide all required business and personal details.
Step 3: Verify Phone Number
Where: Stripe onboarding (new tab)
What to do:
- Enter your email address
- Enter your phone number
- Receive an SMS verification code
- Enter the code to confirm your phone
Why: Phone verification is the first identity check in Stripe’s KYC (Know Your Customer) process.
Step 4: Select Business Type
Where: Stripe onboarding
What to do:
- Choose your business type from the dropdown:
- Person (sole proprietor)
- Selskap (company)
- Ideell organisasjon (non-profit)
Why: Business type determines which forms and information Stripe will require next.
Step 5: Enter Personal Details
Where: Stripe onboarding
What to do:
- Enter the legal name of the account representative
- Enter date of birth
- Enter home address
- Enter phone number
Why: Stripe requires personal details of the account representative for legal/compliance reasons.
Step 6: Enter Business Details
Where: Stripe onboarding
What to do:
- Select your industry
- Provide a product description (what you sell)
Why: Business details help Stripe assess risk and ensure regulatory compliance for your industry.
Step 7: Enter Bank Details
Where: Stripe onboarding
What to do:
- Select your currency
- Enter your IBAN (test IBAN available in test mode)
- This is where payouts will land
Why: Bank details determine where Stripe will deposit your ticket revenue after payments are processed.
Step 8: Verify Identity
Where: Stripe onboarding (mobile recommended)
What to do:
- Stripe asks to verify the account representative’s identity
- Choose the Selfie + Photo ID option (fastest path)
- Scan a government-issued ID on your phone
- Take a quick selfie
- In test mode, a Simulate button is available
Why: Identity verification is required by financial regulations. Selfie + ID is typically the fastest and most reliable method.
Step 9: Review and Submit
Where: Stripe onboarding
What to do:
- Review every section
- Edit anything flagged as Incomplete
- Click Continue if items need verification
- On the final review screen, click Agree and Submit
Why: The review step ensures all data is correct before final submission to Stripe’s verification team.
Step 10: Confirm Activation in Tappin
Where: Workspace → Payment Settings
What to do:
- After submitting, you’re redirected back to Tappin
- Look at the Stripe Connect block
- Confirm: Status: Active
- Confirm: Card Payments: Enabled
- Confirm: Payouts: Enabled
Why: Seeing all three green indicators confirms your workspace is now ready to accept card payments.
